A successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Moodle, PHP, web development tools, and LMS functionality. They should be technically sound with experience in web design using XML, HTML, PHP and JavaScript along with common web development applications.   Primary tasks will include developing a robust Moodle learning management system, and maintaining all company websites.

The ideal candidate should also have demonstrated knowledge of user interface design/experience, web content management and strong system development life cycle (SDLC) skills. The candidate should also be well versed in usability best practices, accessibility standards, and various design and development models. This position requires the candidate can assess application needs based on mockups and discussion with stakeholders, develop and identify plan for identifying and improving user interface/experience issues, and create new graphical user interfaces for existing web applications within a short time frame.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Adapt user interface mockups and design comps into functional Moodle LMS (version 3.2.1) website. To include implementing and modifying themes, recommending, deploying, and debugging blocks, implementing APIs as needed for integration.
  • Effectively utilize existing themes, blocks, and custom coding as needed to develop Moodle LMS.
  • Provides or coordinates systems technical service support and programming to users and staff by modifying existing programming logic
  • Debugs modified Moodle and Moodle related programs; codes necessary instructions using established LMS standards and principles
  • Tests and debugs modified Moodle programs
  • Ensure HTML/CSS is cross-browser and standards compliant and meets 508 accessibility/disability requirements.
  • Imports all existing courseware into new LMS instance, ensures that all content renders correctly.
  • Supports end users by developing documentation
  • Other task to be determined during LMS development
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor, clients and/or stakeholders in order to provide feedback, risks, project status, and change requirements to ensure project objectives are being met on schedule.
  • Maintain and edit all Lunarline websites, including those of in-house school and certification programs.
  • Installation, setup, and maintenance of new website servers and website programs.
  • Update and upgrades of all websites, website OS and Programs.

Required Skills
  • Good knowledge of Moodle, Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Ubuntu server, RHEL server, MySQL, Apache, PHP, Amazon AWS, Javascript, HTML, HTML5
  • Strong knowledge of Moodle APIs
  • Must be able to install, setup, and maintain new website servers and website programs
  • Must be able to learn to use GUI and command line for website tasks
  • Must be able to update and upgrade servers (OS and programs)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Object oriented programming and design patterns
  • Strong familiarity with enhancing or creating most common plugin types – themes, blocks, modules, etc.
  • Ability to apply UX design best practices

Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services
  • Usability best practices, accessibility standards, and various design and development models, and graphic and user interface design skills
  • WordPress development and configuration
  • Previous telecommute experience
  • Certificate or degree in web development, computer science, or any other related discipline

Required Experience
  • Moodle Development and Configuration:  3 Years
  • PHP:  3 Years
  • LMS platform development and configuration for training or higher education:  1-2 years
  • Candidates should be prepared to provide samples or links to past projects.

  • The position requires telecommute availability during core business hours of 9am-3pm eastern time.  Other times to be determined.
