The Instructional Design Manager acts as a learning engineer managing web-based and instructor led course development projects through the design, development, and production or delivery process.  An Instructional Designer works independently as well as collaboratively and on a cross-functional team of subject matter experts, content developers, multi-media developers, project managers, and course production personnel to ensure timely delivery of online courses that meet Lunarline standards for instructional quality.

Responsibilities and Typical Activities:
  • As a member of the development team, works closely with subject matter experts, multimedia developers and Director of SCS on the design and development of instructional content (including scoping graphics and multimedia), as well as utilization of appropriate instructional technology applications for delivery of online and instructor led instructional content that is engaging and high quality.
  • Project management of course development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of learning theory, instructional technology and best practices in instructional design, and online course development
  • Advise and assist subject matter experts, and SCS staff in best use of instructional strategies, educational media, and technology tools to enhance instruction and create new learning environments
  • Provide instructor support and coaching after product launch
  • Conduct needs assessment, analyze data and make recommendations
  • Other product development, projects and duties as assigned
A Likely Activities Breakdown:
  • 70% - Collaborating with SMEs and course developers to design/revise courses  
  • 30% - Special projects as assigned       
Measurement of Success:
An Instructional Designer will be evaluated based on (a) ability to meet deadlines; (b) ability to meet instructional design and development/productivity goals while maintaining highest level of quality, (c) the ability to create instructional design and instructional technology solutions within the constraints defined by the project parameters; and (d) ability to work effectively on a team, including with external entities and within Lunarline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in online education, preferably in corporate training or higher education.
  • Experience assisting SMEs in defining instructional and assessment elements
  • Ability to blend sound learning principles with creative design and to translate ideas into concepts for engaging multimedia products
  • Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance instructional methods and improve the learners’ educational experience
  • Experience conducting needs assessments, analyzing data and making recommendations
  • Experience designing, developing and implementing online projects within a education and/or training environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable skill in working with clients and skill in relationship building
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
Desired Skills
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Online teaching experience preferred
  • Experience with Moodle strongly preferred and/or experience with other LMS platforms desired.

Minimum Education and Certifications
  • One of the following:
    • Master’s degree (or higher) in education or training and development with preference for degrees in Instructional Design (or related discipline) or
    • Significant work experience that demonstrates comparable acquisition of expertise in the fields of instructional design and curriculum development for adult learners.
  • The following certifications (more than one is preferred): Lunarline, Inc. School of Cyber Security “Certified Expert” certifications, Security+, CEH, Network+, CAP, or SANS security certification
